Getting started
The game is all about fitting gems in straight lines of three or more. Match some gems and they will become troops. These troops will then march up the screen and hit any monsters that they come into contact .

That is an important point to think about though. If you match a group of gems on one side of the screen, they’re not likely to wander over to another. Troops always walk directly up from where they’re matched.

That does not indicate that fitting gems which are not likely to score you a hit is a waste of time however. Match some green gems, for instance, and they will add some mana to some green personality that you have got in your army.

Character colours
Various monsters also have different colors. You may use this to determine what you need to be hitting them with. Pay attention to the wheel at the upper left corner of the screen to find out which color gems are strongest against which color characters.

Sometimes you’e not likely to have the ability to move the board around to use the most powerful colors, but keep in mind that it is always better to use any color rather than the one which is weakest against the competitor that you are fighting.

It’s best to have as mixed a group of characters as you can, because that’s likely to set you in good stead whatever you come up against. But it is possible to see exactly what you are likely to be fighting before you embark on a level, so if you’ve got plenty of strong characters it is possible to tailor your own army.
